MacBook Pros have been generally running much hotter than they should be. It appears Apple has throttled the system fans at 1000rpm. Why? I don't know and I really can't tell whether it has some practical purpose or just Apple being eccentric. But, the fans can be commanded into going above 1000rpm using this neat, little piece of GUI software called smcFanControl
. Go download it and try it out on your MacBook Pro.This fellow who's written a review
says 3000rpm is a good speed to run them at and they make no significant sound at that level.
