Google is out with their latest Earth. This time, the highlight is underwater exploration. I don't like to diss on what was probably months of a lot of hard work but Google Earth 5's undersea exploration features do not impress me at all. In addition, it still maintains the very clunky looking Mac OS X UI that it has carried since day one.

I don't know how long this has existed (maybe I've just been blind), but the Finder's been hiding this excellent Path Bar which shows up at the bottom of every Finder window and basically shows a hierarchy leading up to the folder you're currently in. We've all heard of the venerable Perian, but perhaps not of the Perian's Type Installer 2.4.2. Unfortunately, still no definitive result. I use VMWare because it supports both CPUs, feels fast enough and has a decent Cocoa UI. As for Parallels, it supports multiple snapshots, if that's your thing.

As some may remember, at least some who use one of the East Asian languages, Apple had originally promised to ship with text-to-speech support for Chinese and Japanese, which, like a lot of other things, is simply missing in Leopard.

I liked the Zune 1.0 UI too and 2.0 just makes it even slicker. My main problem with Zune 1.0 was the desktop software, and, to some extent, the fact that it looked like a brick.

I love this! Amazon MP3 uses LAME 3.97 to encode, as of this writing. I also recommend the song, by the way.
